Everyone has their own version of what they consider to be the advantages and disadvantages of cloth and disposable nappies. At the end of the day it is up to the individual to decide what suits them.
Cloth nappies are no longer soaked in a bucket until washing, but disposables still take up room in the garbage bin (and contribute to landfill). It does take a little extra time to launder cloth nappies, but you are not driving to the store each week to buy a box disposables.
Although disposables last for a longer period of time between changes and suck moisture away from baby's skin, modern cloth nappies made from hemp and bamboo can be just as absorbent, while the use of fleece liners leaves baby with the same dry feeling as in disposables.
Modern cloth is also a modern clothing accessory. They come in hundreds of appealing colours, styles, prints and fits. Disposables only come in white and have a strip of colour or a character print where the tabs sit.
Cloth nappies are adjustable to fit all shapes and sizes, and can be bought in large and small quantities. There are many brands of disposables available to try, but you have to buy a whole packet to try one nappy for a fit.
